FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 5, 2009

Youth Services detectives Tuesday arrested the mother of a 3-year-old girl and 8-year-old boy who were both severely beaten.

The mother, Elizabeth Messick, 27, and her boyfriend, Chad Viney, 31, admitted beating the 3-year-old with a belt because she would not eat her dinner.  The 8-year-old was also repeatedly struck.  Both children were treated at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and released into the custody of the Department of Children’s Services.

Messick and Viney, of Archwood Place, are each charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse.  They are both being held in lieu of $80,000 bond.
