The stop of a rental car for following too closely on I-40 east near Bellevue Tuesday afternoon resulted in the seizure of 14 pounds of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ICE, with an estimated street value of $1 million.
Interstate Interdiction Unit Officer Jaime Scruggs found the 13 wrapped bricks of contraband hidden in the car after the driver consented to a search. The driver said he was returning to North Carolina after vacationing in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
Agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration were called to the scene and have assumed the investigation, which has led to the identification of two additional defendants in Georgia. The names of the persons charged by the DEA are not being released at present so as not to jeopardize the ongoing investigation.
