FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 7, 2009

Missing person Sara Martinez is today being classified as a murder victim, and an arrest warrant has been issued against Jose Morano, the last person known to have been with Martinez.

Martinez, 20, was last seen March 9th at Club Guadalajara on Old Hickory Boulevard in South Nashville.  She was reported missing by a friend on March 15th.

The Toyota Corolla Morano was known to be driving was recovered abandoned March 24th on Allied Drive off Nolensville Pike.  There was a significant amount of blood in and around the front passenger seat of the Toyota.  DNA testing confirms that the blood is from Sara Martinez.

Extensive efforts by Cold Case Detective Hugh Coleman, the police department’s missing person coordinator, to locate both Martinez and Morano over the past five months have been unsuccessful.  Morano has not been seen at his apartment complex since March 9th.  He never returned for his belongings.  It is thought that Morano has fled the Nashville area and may have returned to Honduras.

Anyone knowing Jose Morano’s whereabouts or anyone having contact with him is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.  Spanish speaking operators are available and a cash reward of up to $1,000 is being offered.  Likewise, anyone with information on the injuries suffered by Martinez and/or the whereabouts of her body is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.  Citizens can also send an electronic message to Crime Stoppers by texting the word “CASH” along with their message to 274637 (CRIMES). Tips can also be sent through the Crime Stoppers website, www.nashvillecrimestoppers.com.
