More than 90 additional Metro police officers will be working downtown beginning tomorrow through Sunday to minimize traffic congestion and ensure the safety of the thousands of persons attending this year’s CMA Music Festival.
The officers, many of whom are being paid overtime through the department’s designated special events fund, will be assigned to various posts, including the area around LP Field, over two shifts between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 12 midnight each day. Those officers are in addition to those hired by the CMA to staff performance venues at Riverfront and Hilton Parks.
A number of street and lane closures related to the festival began this morning and will remain in effect until next Monday morning. They include Broadway between 1st and 2nd Avenues, 5th Avenue between Demonbreun Street and Broadway, and 1st Avenue between Demonbreun and Church Streets.
This afternoon’s CMA Music Fest Kickoff Parade will necessitate the closures of Broadway between 7th and 3rd Avenues, Demonbreun Street between 3rd and 6th Avenues, and 3rd, 4th, and 6th Avenues between Demonbreun Street and Broadway. Those closures are scheduled from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. today.
