March 24, 2009

Acting on a tip about a neighborhood drug house, West Precinct Crime Suppression Unit detectives Monday night arrested a family of three for running a hydroponic marijuana grow operation inside their 950 W. Greenwood Avenue home.

Joshua and Cynthia Sharp (husband & wife), and Joshua’s brother, Christopher Sharp, are charged with manufacturing marijuana within a drug free zone, possession of marijuana for resale within a drug free zone, possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms and mushroom spores for resale within a drug free zone, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Joshua and Cynthia Sharp are also charged with a Crooks with Guns violation for keeping a loaded 12 gauge shotgun near the marijuana operation.

During a search of the home, detectives seized 55 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, seven pounds of processed marijuana (which detectives believe would have been sold from the residence), one ounce of mushrooms, several syringes of mushroom spores, numerous digital scale devices, marijuana pipes and grinders.

Across the street from the defendants’ home is a daycare operated by other members of their family. Hattie Cotton Elementary School is less than 1,000 feet from the residence.

Bond for Joshua Sharp (age 30) and Cynthia Sharp (age 31) is set at $137,500 each. Bond for Christopher Sharp (age 34) is set at $147,500.
