The man who died Monday after he drove his SUV into a pond at the intersection of Devon Valley Drive and Old Hickory Boulevard in Bellevue is identified as Jimmy Simmons, 67, of Country Hill Road.
Simmons was driving a 1992 Toyota 4Runner southbound on Old Hickory Boulevard when he veered off the roadway, crossed over the northbound lanes of traffic, and drove into the pond at 11:30 a.m. A witness reported Simmons was driving erratically just before the accident.
Simmons, the only occupant in the SUV, died at the scene. Nashville Fire Department personnel pulled the Toyota from the pond. Simmons’ body was inside the vehicle.
There was no evidence of alcohol involvement at the scene. The Medical Examiner will determine whether a medical issue may have played a role in this fatal accident. Toxicology testing is pending.
