Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, resulted in 76 arrests involving 63 misdemeanors, 18 felonies, and 27 outstanding warrants. Seized were 76.2 grams of marijuana, one gram of cocaine, 15 various pills, and two weapons.

At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of 14 SID detectives and 30 patrol officers. Areas targeted were Nolensville Pike, Buchanan Street, Jefferson Street, Dr. D.B. Todd Boulevard, the Bordeaux area, Richland Park, 46th Avenue North at Charlotte Pike, Lafayette Street, Murfreesboro Pike, the J.C. Napier public housing development, 7th Avenue North at Garfield Street, Eastland Avenue at Dalebrook Lane, and Lebanon Pike at Spence Lane.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of 17 SID detectives and 16 patrol officers. Areas targeted were the J.C. Napier public housing development, Harding Place, the Cheatham Place public housing development, Buchanan Street, the Hickory Hollow area, Nolensville Pike, Haywood Lane, the Cumberland View public housing development, Clarksville Pike, Dr. D.B. Todd Boulevard, 23rd Avenue North at Osage Street, Dickerson Pike, Gallatin Pike, Main Street, the James Cayce public housing development, 6th Avenue North at Garfield Street, and the Madison area.

Sunday’s enforcement consisted of seven SID detectives and five patrol officers. Areas targeted were 23rd Avenue North at Osage Street, the Cumberland View public housing development, Dr. D.B. Todd Boulevard, Clarksville Pike, the Cheatham Place public housing development, the Hickory Hollow area, and Harding Place.

So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 1,268 arrests on 151 felony charges and 1,307 misdemeanor charges, 170 drug seizures, 17 gun seizures, the service of 249 outstanding warrants, 226 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge, and 3,604 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
