FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 4, 2008

Shelby County sheriff’s deputies Saturday night arrested a Memphis parolee in connection with last weekend’s armed robbery of Sinkers Wine & Spirits in East Nashville, which resulted in the shooting death of one suspect.

Cario Dotson, 20, is presently being held in the Shelby County Jail pending his return to Nashville, where he faces two counts of aggravated robbery. Dotson was identified by a witness as the surviving suspect who went to the 3304 Gallatin Pike liquor store to commit a robbery at 10 p.m. on April 26. Both suspects had their faces covered and at least one had a gun.

As the robbery began, a 24-year-old customer, who was carrying a semi-automatic pistol pursuant to a valid handgun carry permit, opened fire on the suspects in defense of himself and others in the store. Suspect Devin Hogan, 20, also of Memphis, was fatally wounded and collapsed in the parking lot. The second suspect, alleged to be Dotson, fled the scene.

At the time of last weekend’s robbery, Dotson was on parole in relation to an eight-year sentence he received in Shelby County for multiple armed robbery counts in 2004.
