An investigation by Central Precinct undercover detectives into marijuana selling at 1412 Cardinal Avenue led to an interesting discovery in the kitchen.
While executing a search warrant at the residence Thursday, detectives discovered two large plastic bags of marijuana, weighing one pound each, in the refrigerator. Also in the house were nine boxes of plastic baggies, a set of scales, a price list for various amounts of marijuana, and $5,970 cash.
Charged with possession of marijuana for resale and possession of drug paraphernalia is John Wesley Boyd, 60.
Interestingly, this is the same home where Katina Ballard lives. Ballard, 49, who Boyd identified as his fiancé, was arrested Wednesday on two counts of failure to report child abuse and one count of aggravated child neglect. Ballard is the grandmother of Jerald Hicks, Jr., the 17-month-old boy who starved to death in January.
