FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April, 2008

The motorcyclist fatally injured at 10:10 p.m. Thursday night when his 1991 Honda slammed into a 2003 Pontiac Vibe on Stewart’s Ferry Pike at I-40 is identified as Randall George, 30, of Greenbrier. George died shortly after arriving at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

George was traveling north on Stewarts Ferry Pike at a very high rate of speed (the speedometer on the motorcycle was found to be stuck at 95 mph after the crash). The Pontiac was traveling south on Stewarts Ferry Pike and was attempting to turn left onto the I-40 east ramp when the motorcycle slammed into it. The driver of the Pontiac, Brittany Cole, 19, was not injured and no charges against her are anticipated.

George, who was not being pursued when he crashed, is believed to be the same motorcyclist who led Lavergne police officer David Borden on a high speed pursuit minutes before the fatal crash. The motorcyclist refused to stop while in Rutherford County and Borden pursued him on Murfreesboro Pike into Davidson County. The motorcyclist made it through the intersection of Murfreesboro Pike and Hamilton Church Road. When Borden approached the intersection, he struck three vehicles. Borden and one citizen were transported to Southern Hills Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
