FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 24, 2007

The woman found dead Saturday afternoon on the banks of the Cumberland River near the entrance to Shelby Park is identified as 67-year-old Cassanova Short.

Officers had been looking for Short since September 16 when she was reported missing from her Eastland Avenue group home. Staff called police after Short failed to attend breakfast that morning.

Short suffered from an emotional/mental disorder and apparently walked away from the home. No evidence of foul play was found on the riverbank, where her body was discovered by a fisherman at 2:45 p.m.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
