Outstanding police work Wednesday night led to charges against four suspects, including two juveniles, alleged to be involved in at least two armed robberies.
The events began to unfold at 9:50 p.m. when a man was parking his maroon 2006 Toyota Avalon near his residence in the 5100 block of Rice Road where two men ordered him out of his car at gunpoint. His five-year-old daughter was a passenger in the Avalon. The victim complied, grabbed his five-year-old daughter, and fled on foot toward their apartment.
Twenty minutes later, a woman was parking her car in front of her residence in the 1100 block of Saxony Lake Drive when she was robbed at gunpoint. She struggled briefly with the suspect before surrendering her purse. Once the suspect had the purse, he shot the woman in the arm.
Off-duty East Precinct Detective Ronald Kumrow heard the shot and ran to the area to investigate. He saw the suspects drive away in the Toyota Avalon which had been carjacked minutes earlier. Detective Kumrow immediately dispatched a description of the getaway car.
South Precinct Patrol and Flex Unit officers saturated the area and at 11 p.m. Flex Officer Kenny Stephens spotted the Avalon parked at the Sonic Restaurant at 2787 Murfreesboro Pike. Officer Stephens notified dispatch and backup arrived to secure the area. The four suspects were taken into custody without incident.
Luis Herrera, 17, of Murfreesboro Pike, and Boris Hernandez, 17, of Syfert Lane, were booked into juvenile detention on charges of aggravated robbery and attempted criminal homicide.
Nikki Kamp, 18, of Murfreesboro Pike, is charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated robbery, and unlawful weapon possession. Tramel Ray, 25, of Dove Creek Drive, is charged with unlawful weapon possession, theft, and marijuana possession.
Kamp is being held in lieu of $207,000 dollars bond. Ray is being held in lieu of $37,000 dollars bond.
