The man fatally wounded at 2:30 a.m. today outside the Pilot Truck Stop at 130 West Trinity Lane is identified as Tim Alumbaugh, 28, of Old Russellville Pike in Clarksville.
Alumbaugh was shot following a prolonged confrontation with the truck stop’s security guard, Robert Mangrum, 23, of Madison.
The investigation shows that Alumbaugh and his girlfriend drove into the truck stop for a romantic interlude. Alumbaugh parked his car in an area reserved for tractor-trailers. Mangrum said that when he asked Alumbaugh to leave, Alumbaugh objected and began coming toward him. A scuffle ensued. Mangrum said he was unable to control Alumbaugh with a baton and that efforts to handcuff him were unsuccessful. Mangrum said it was when Alumbaugh was on top of him and striking him that he drew his .40-caliber pistol and shot Alumbaugh one time in the chest. Alumbaugh was transported to Skyline Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Mangrum was taken to Baptist Hospital for treatment. Alumbaugh’s girlfriend, who attempted to intercede and stop the fight, was not injured.
The police department’s investigation is continuing. No charges have been placed against Mangrum. The case file will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office for review when it is complete.
