Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday afternoon and evening, resulted in 16 arrests involving 15 misdemeanors, and four outstanding warrants. Seized were nine grams of marijuana and one weapon.

At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of 13 SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted include the Madison area, the Cheatham Place public housing development, the Salemtown area, the James Cayce public housing development, Dickerson Pike, Nolensville Pike, Harding Place, and Haywood Lane.

In 2007 the Metropolitan Police Department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has resulted in 779 arrests involving 847 misdemeanor charges, 138 felony charges, and 162 outstanding warrants.
