The man found shot Tuesday afternoon at the Cheatham Place public housing development is identified as Derrick Leon Handy, 26, of Gwynnwood Drive.
Central Precinct police officers responded to a shots fired called at 3 p.m. and found Handy lying in the grass in the 1500 block of Delta Avenue with a single gunshot wound to the chest. His Cadillac was parked a few feet away. Handy was transported to General Hospital where he died.
Detectives are trying to identify two black men seen running from the area at the time of the shooting. They are described as having short hair and wearing shorts. One wore a blue T-shirt, the other a white T-shirt.
Anyone with information about Handy’s murder is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
