West Precinct undercover detectives Tuesday night seized one kilogram (2.2 pounds) of cocaine and $86,773 cash as part of a drug investigation involving a cook at the Corner Bar at 2200 Elliston Place.
The cook, Majid Rejeb, 30, of McCall Street, and his associate, Ahmed Habib, 27, of Richardson, Texas, are jailed on charges of engaging in a cocaine distribution conspiracy and possession of cocaine for resale.
Detectives began the investigation after receiving information that Rejeb was connected to the sale of large amounts of cocaine. Late Tuesday night, Rejeb and Habib were in the parking lot of the Corner Bar attempting to consummate a kilogram sale. Officers descended on the two suspects as they sat with the cocaine in Habib’s 1999 Acura sedan. A subsequent search of the car led to the discovery of two electronically controlled trap doors in the rear seating area of the Acura. Stashed inside the secret compartments was cash totaling $86,773. Detectives believe that the money represents the proceeds of other cocaine sales made by Habib between Texas and Nashville.
“The sophisticated hidden compartments in the Acura tell us that this was a well thought out effort to distribute cocaine and hide the proceeds,” Chief Ronal Serpas said. “The West Precinct undercover team did an excellent job in following up on the information about the cook and arresting two men who saw nothing wrong with supplying cocaine to the streets of Nashville.”
Rejeb and Habib are being held in lieu of $150,000 bond each.
