
Two unrelated traffic stops in the South Precinct during the night netted significant amounts of various drugs, cash, and one gun.
Officer Ken Stephens stopped Alex Morales, 22, of Faulkner Drive at 11:30 p.m. Monday on Haywood Lane at Interstate 24 for not wearing a seatbelt. Morales and his passenger, Casey Guzak, 30, of English Village Drive appeared to be extremely nervous. Officer Stephens also observed digital scales in Morales back pocket when he reached over to the glove compartment to retrieve the car’s registration. Seized in a subsequent search of the car were 12 grams of marijuana, 47.8 grams of cocaine, 554 various painkillers and pharmaceutical pills, and $4,000 cash.
Four hours later, Officer Julian Pirtle pulled over the driver of a Honda Civic on Interstate 24 at Briley Parkway. Thanath Lont Sayadeth, 33, of Murfreesboro, was not wearing a seatbelt. A consent search of the Civic led to the seizure of 285 Ecstasy pills, 26.1 grams of crystal methamphetamine, num-chucks, a switchblade, drug paraphernalia, and a .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol.
More than $55,000 in illegal drugs were seized from both stops.
Sayadeth was charged with possession of schedule III drugs and methamphetamine for resale, being a felon in possession of a handgun, and felony weapon possession. He is being held in lieu of $62,000 bond.
Morales is charged with possession of cocaine, marijuana, Schedule II, III, and IV drugs for resale. He is being held in lieu of $126,000 bond. Guzak is charged with possession of Schedule III drugs for resale, and possession of cocaine. He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bond.
