Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday and Saturday resulted in 31 arrests including ten felonies, 29 misdemeanors, and one outstanding warrant. Seizures included 10.8 grams of marijuana, one gram of cocaine, and $381 cash.

At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of nine SID detectives and seven patrol officers. Areas targeted were 28th Avenue North, Clifton Avenue, the Pearl Cohn High School area, University Court, the J.C. Napier public housing development, Trimble Bottoms, Harding Place, Largo Drive, Haywood Lane, and Paragon Mills.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of eleven SID detectives and four patrol officers. Areas targeted were the 900 block of North 5th Street, Dickerson Pike at Marie Street, Claiborne Street, Brick Church Pike, Trinity Lane, 3rd Avenue South at Cameron Street, 2nd Avenue North at Commerce Street, 8th Avenue North at Garfield Street, and Madison Park.

In 2007 The Metropolitan Police Department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has netted 557 arrests involving 600 misdemeanor charges, 106 felony charges, and 121 outstanding warrants.
