Traffic flow in several parts of Nashville will be impeded tomorrow as thousands of runners participate in the 8th annual Country Music Marathon.
The 26.2-mile marathon route will be closed to vehicle traffic by 6:25 a.m. Saturday. The wheelchair race will begin from Centennial Park at 6:45 a.m. The Country Music Marathon will begin from Centennial Park area at 7 a.m. and will travel east on West End. West End and Broadway are expected to reopen to traffic by 8:30 a.m.
Traffic will be restricted until all runners have passed, and citizens should expect road closures along some parts of the route through at least early afternoon. However, every effort will be made to accommodate persons who need to cross the route to get into their places of employment or homes, so long as it does not directly interfere with the race. Emergency vehicles will be given priority to cross the route. Priority will also be given to emergency hospital access.
Nearly 300 persons, including police officers, police officer trainees, school crossing guards and Emergency Management volunteers will direct traffic away from, and secure, the marathon route.
The finish line will be at LP Field.
The special Kids Marathon for children in kindergarten through 6th grade will be held this evening with various start times between 6 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. The one mile course begins on South 2nd Street between Shelby Avenue and Russell Street.
