
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place on Friday and Saturday nights, resulted in 34 arrests involving 12 felonies, 40 misdemeanors, and 15 outstanding warrants.
Seized were 140.5 grams of marijuana, six grams of cocaine, and 35 pills.
At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville. Friday night’s enforcement consisted of 14 SID detectives and five patrol officers. Saturday night’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives, two canine officers, and five patrol officers. Some of the areas targeted were the James Cayce public housing development, Dickerson Pike at Cleveland Street, Harding Place, Paragon Mills Road, Nolensville Pike, the J.C. Napier public housing development, North 2nd Street, Dellway Villa Road, McFerrin Street, 23rd Avenue North at Osage Street, Panorama Drive, Buchanan Street, 9th Avenue North at Garfield Street, Haywood Lane, Packard Drive, and Cephas Street.
So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 467 arrests involving 92 felonies, 509 misdemeanors, and 111 outstanding warrants. Ten guns have been seized.
