Metro Police patch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 26, 2007

The utility subcontractor killed in today's building collapse at 2309 Franklin Pike has been identified as Richard Whiteshield, 57, of Clewiston, Florida. A second subcontractor, John Daryl Kemper, 45, of Hendersonville, is in stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Both men worked for Tennessee Technical Consultants of Hendersonville, contracted by Nashville Gas. At approximately 11:30 a.m., one of the men was jack hammering on the outside corner of the building when the vacant structure suddenly collapsed, killing Whiteshield and pinning Kemper beneath a steel beam.

The men were attempting to find a natural gas line so they could turn it off prior to the building’s demolition.
