
Last weekend's Operation Safer Streets' gang enforcement initiative, which took place in a steady rain Saturday night, resulted in 10 arrests involving three felonies, eleven misdemeanors and three outstanding warrants. Seizures included three guns, eight grams of marijuana and two grams of crack cocaine.
At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Saturday night's enforcement consisted of five SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were 8 th Avenue North at Garfield Street, University Court, Harding Place at Linbar Drive, Paragon Mills Road, Tampa Drive, Nolensville Pike at Harding Place and North 1st Street at Harding Place.
Since its inception on May 19, 2006, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 596 arrests involving 127 felonies and 660 misdemeanors, the service of 167 outstanding warrants, 128 drug seizures, 30 gun seizures, 839 traffic stops, and 496 traffic citations.
"Operation Safer Streets has proven to be an important enforcement tool on streets throughout our city," Chief Ronal Serpas said. "Nashvillians can look for our gang enforcement strategies to continue and evolve during 2007."
