Deputy Chief Anderson is the commander of the Field Operations Bureau. This Bureau is comprised of Nashville Davidson County's North, South, East, West, Hermitage and Central Precincts, the Special Operations Division (SWAT, Traffic and Emergency Contingency Units) and the Park Police. Anderson previously served as the commander of the Administrative Services Bureau and the Investigative Services Bureau.

Deputy Chief Anderson joined the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department in 1975 has been assigned to the Patrol Division, the Planning and Research Division and served as Administrative Assistant to former Chiefs of Police Joe Casey, Robert Kirchner and Emmett Turner. In prior years he served as the law instructor at the Training Academy and provided on site legal advice to the SWAT Team and other critical incidents and mass gatherings.

Anderson is a graduate of Peabody High School in Trenton, Tennessee. Prior to joining the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, he served in the United States Air Force and was employed by the White County, Tennessee Sheriff's Department.

Anderson earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Belmont University and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the Nashville School of Law. He is a member of the Nashville and Tennessee Bar Associations and is licensed to practice law in the Local, State and Federal Courts.

Anderson has served as an adjunct professor of law at Nashville State Community College providing instruction in criminal law and procedure and criminal evidence.
