Property and Evidence Division
The Property and Evidence Division is divided into two separate entities, the Vehicle Impound Section and the Evidence Storage Section.
The Evidence Storage Section has the responsibility of receiving, storing, releasing and maintaining security for the vast majority of all criminal evidence, stolen and found property, which is recovered in Davidson County.
Evidence Storage Section
The effective investigation and prosecution of a criminal offender relies heavily on the careful, methodical and proper use of evidence. It is the responsibility of the Evidence Storage Division to maintain not only the integrity of each item of evidence but the integrity of its Chain of Custody as well. The careful safeguards in place ensure all property coming into their possession is processed in accordance with state laws, city ordinances and departmental policies and procedures, and helps ensure the items value later in court.
Each year some 28,000 items are turned into this section ranging from lost and recovered property to evidence in rape, homicide, drugs and weapons cases. In June 2004 the Evidence Storage Section moved into its new 44,000 sq. ft facility which can house the massive amounts of drugs, guns and other evidence being taken off our streets by Metro officers.
Location
The Evidence Storage Section's facility is located at 942 East Trinity Lane, Nashville TN 37207.
